You didn’t even know our great junior senator wrote a book? Well, indeed he has! The book is called Growing American Roots: Why Our Nation Will Thrive As Our Largest Minority Flourishes.

Here is the description from Amazon.com.

Senator Bob Menendez has long been disturbed by the rhetoric of media figures like Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh, who, he believes, are spreading fear and misconceptions about the Latino community. For Menendez, who has held the highest-ranking position for a Hispanic in congressional history, it is about time the truth about Hispanics and their potential in this nation is brought into the spotlight—for all the right reasons.

Instead of viewing Latinos as the growing cause of many of America’s problems, he sees quite the opposite—and in this book he takes a unique approach by imagining a hopeful future for our nation. With the step-by-step plan that Menendez has devised and proposes in this book, the United States’ future will be made brighter and more successful precisely because of, not in spite of, the burgeoning influence of the Hispanic population as it “grows its American roots.”

Yep, raise your hand out there if you view Hispanics as causing many of America’s problems! What are there, 10 or 12 of you?

Well, move over Mark Levin’s Liberty and Tyranny and Glenn Beck’s Common Sense! You are going to have company soon…NOT!

Now, the really fun part! Senator Menendez is even going to have a book signing event! The book signing event will be held at Border….wait, sorry…the book signing event will be held at Wal-….oops, sorry, no…the book signing event will be held at Barnes &….oh, no, I keep screwing this up….no, here it is…the book signing will be at…

National Council of La Raza, 1126 16th Street, NW, Washington, District of Columbia 20036

That’s right! What better place to hold a book signing event for his pro-Hispanic tome than amongst radical open-borders zealots who believe the American Southwest should belong to Mexico! It all makes sense to me now!

Thanks, Senator. I can now see the light!

As a conservative, we are accustomed to the Left hurling vicious, one-liner attacks our way.

Sexist. Homophobe. Racist.

These are always the default arguments for Leftists bereft of any logical thought and an inability to put forth a coherent counterpoint to conservative views.

However, I have to admit. The one attack that irks me most is being called racist, for nothing could be further from the truth. Nothing. Nor is it true of most people I have conversed with in my life who share similar views. Conservatism, as it were, is a color-blind ideology.

Thus, when someone like Alicia Menendez, daughter of our fair Senator Bob Menendez, pens an article baselessly accusing Republicans of not caring about Latinos I can’t help but be angered. Not just as a conservative, but as an American who wants nothing but prosperity for all citizens.

You see, the real race-baiters are people like Alicia Menendez who do not treat people as individuals. Rather, Menendez prefers to segment us into groups and then pit us against one another; all, of course, with one aim - gaining political power.

For demogogues like Miss Menendez, pointing to the widespread appointments of Hispanics throughout the Bush Administration will not matter. Pointing to the appointment of Alberto Gonzales as the first ever Attorney General, fruitless.

You see, to Miss Menendez, GOPers are anti-Latino if they do not send a representative to a meeting held by the controversial group La Raza; a group that favors open borders and amnesty and consists of Mexicans who believe that the Southwest territory rightfully belongs to Mexico. And, of course, no such current attack is complete without a mention of Sonia Sotomayor.

This inability (or unwillingness) to connect with Latino voters brings back sweet, sweet memories of 2008, when right-wing extremists alienated Hispanics by pulling the GOP rhetoric to the right on immigration. Last fall, the contenders for the Republican Presidential nomination, save John McCain, all declined invitations to a Univision-sponsored presidential debate. Here we are, a year later, and the GOP is still turning down invites.

I’m a progressive Latina—I should be throwing a fiesta, right? Democrats have an opportunity to lock-down the fastest-growing, most brand-loyal group in the country and Republicans aren’t even trying to compete. On paper, it’s great.

But regardless of which party Latino voters show up for on election day, our community needs Democratic and Republican lawmakers to care about our issues the other 364 days of the year. And if the GOP cannot get it together enough to send a high-profile representative to one of the largest gatherings of Latino leaders in the country, what should we expect when comprehensive immigration reform hits the House floor? More of the same rhetoric? Another no-show?

Just as the story of Sonia Sotomayor, a Puerto Rican, overlaps with the story of so many Americans, the concerns of Hispanic-Americans are shared by much of the country. When a community who voted for health care reform, economic revival and comprehensive immigration reform is ignored, we are all ignored.

That’s bad for Latinos, it’s bad for immigrants, and it’s bad for America.

Somehow, I’m sure, Democrat opposition to Miguel Estrada was not ‘anti-Latino’ in Miss Menendez’ mind. Another fact to be ignored in the quest for political power.

All of this would be of little consequence if this tactic were not effective. Unfortunately, all too many Leftists seem to buy into it hook, line and sinker. Ergo, you see vicious comments from her readers such as…

The problem is not that the Republicans don’t care about Latinos. The problem is they consider Latinos to be sub-human law breakers and either dislike or actively hate them.

Its not just Latinos that the GOP hates, they also hate blacks, gays, Arabs, Muslims, Canadians, Europeans (especially the French), Asians, and liberals. Did I leave anyone out? That’s basically the whole world and 70% of America that they hate. GOPers are one sad pathetic, bigoted, racist hate filled group of people.

The republicans and especially those like buchanan, limbaugh, hannity, coulter, and beck firmly believe that white people are superior to people of color – any color. They are terrified of losing their presumed preeminent position and therefore spew anger, hate, and racism. They have not yet come to grips with the declining demographics of the GOP base.

…to name a few.

Miss Menendez, let me tell you this. What is bad for America is not that the GOP doesn’t address La Raza. It’s not that Republicans or conservatives oppose your socialist agenda. What is bad for America is when you accuse fellow Americans of not caring a whit for their brethren, without possibly knowing what is in their hearts. What is bad for America – truly bad for America – is when people like you attempt to stoke the fires of race in order to promote your agenda. For so doing, you ought to be utterly and unabashedly ashamed of yourself.

A caller to Mark Levin’s show on Thursday revealed the true intentions of the Democrats vis-a-vis socializing healthcare. What they are really pushing for is healthcare for illegal immigrants. This effort is being led by none other than our own lowly Senator, Bob Menendez.

In the audio clip below (starting at around the 70 minute mark), the caller describes what took place at a LARASA (or “La Raza”) meeting which Menendez attended.

This information is critical because ultimately what this means is illegals will be getting back-door amnesty. From there, it’s only a few short leaps to giving them voting rights. And these people certainly won’t be voting (R) that is for certain.

How many more times do we need to hear stories like these until we start cracking down on illegal immigration? Truly sickening.

BREWSTER, N.Y. — Authorities expect to file additional criminal charges against the Brewster man who struck and killed an 8-year-old girl and her mother outside a popular dance studio Monday evening.

Conses Garcia Zacarias, 35, was allegedly driving drunk when his pickup truck ran through the intersection of Routes 22 and 6 about 6:45 p.m. and hit Kayla Donohue and her mother, Lori, 37, both Brewster residents, who were crossing the street.

State police said the two victims had just left the Seven Stars School of Performing Arts, where the child was taking lessons. She was pinned to the wall of the building and pronounced dead at the scene.

Her mother was taken to Putnam Hospital, then transferred to Westchester County Medical Center, where she died later Monday.

The “investigation revealed that a full-size pickup truck, operated by a lone male, was driving erratically eastbound on (Route 6) through the village,” according to police.

Zacarias, who police said was also driving without a license, was arraigned before Town of Southeast Judge Gregory Folchetti and is being held in Putnam County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.

Federal immigrations officials have lodged a detainer against Zacarias because he is in the country illegally, according to Capt. William McNamara, spokesman for the jail.

State police said Zacharias was charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter in the first degree, a class C felony, and driving while intoxicated, but they expect to file a second manslaughter count as a result of Lori Donohue’s death.

You can see the ABC news report on the incident here. It will sicken you more.

Yesterday, the newly formed National Council for a New America (NCNA) held its first conference. The meeting consisted of numerous prominent Republicans including Mitt Romney, House Whip Eric Cantor and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. Richard Ross reported here on CWA! last week regarding this effort aimed at ‘rebranding’ the party and ‘updating’ its message.

After the meeting, though, Jeb Bush had this to say:

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Saturday that it’s time for the Republican Party to give up its “nostalgia” for the heyday of the Reagan era and look forward, even if it means stealing the winning strategy deployed by Democrats in the 2008 election.

“You can’t beat something with nothing, and the other side has something. I don’t like it, but they have it, and we have to be respectful and mindful of that,” Mr. Bush said.

The former president’s brother, often mentioned as a potential candidate in 2012, said President Obama’s message of hope and change during the 2008 campaign clearly resonated with Americans.

“So our ideas need to be forward looking and relevant. I felt like there was a lot of nostalgia and the good old days in the [Republican] messaging. I mean, it’s great, but it doesn’t draw people toward your cause,” Mr. Bush said.

Now, I understand to some extent what Jeb is saying. The party can not rely on nostalgia alone to win elections. This is true. But the problem has not been that the party has done this. The problem is we are no longer the party of Reagan. We haven’t been the party of Reagan, arguably, since Bill Clinton used the government shutdown to kill very bit of momentum built up by the 1994 victories.

And the drift away from Reaganism started before 1994 with Jeb’s dad. The minute Bush #41 took over he left Reaganism behind by supporting tax increases and employing a softer tone - think “thousand points of light” and a “kindler, gentler America.”

The 1994 elections certainly signaled a step back towards Reaganism. For about 4 years we saw the kind of vision Reagan had for America being implemented by Republicans in Congress led by Newt Gingrich and the ‘Contract with America.’. Tax cuts, balanced budgets and returning power back to the states were several of the hallmarks of this movement.

When George W. Bush came onto the scene and announced his candidacy for the Presidency, you may remember many in the media saying that he was more conservative than his father. In retrospect, “W” was only slightly to the right of his father. As they say, the acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree. In fact, “W’s” use of the term “compassionate conservatism” drew the ire of conservatives even back in during the 2000 campaign.

George W. Bush, of course, ultimately did not govern completely like Reagan. “W” was indeed a proponent of a strong, tough foreign policy in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, but his domestic agenda was hardly Reagan-esque save tax cuts. “W” sanctioned excess spending and inexplicably signed into law the prescription drug benefit entitlement. He also promoted and signed into law No Child Left Behind which only increased intervention of the federal government in the area of education, rather than devolving that power to the states. On illegal immigration, “W” also was right there with the pro-amnesty crowd until conservatives put a stop to it (amnesty did occur under Reagan but he would later say that it was a mistake).

So, to some extent I do agree with Jeb. The party does need to update its message. But it should do so by taking the principles of Reaganism and applying them in a personal and relevant way to the problems the nation faces today.

The approach, though, that needs to be tossed in the trash and be forgotten is the “Bush” approach for it is the one that has crippled the Republican Party.

Mrs. Voorhees was killed on Wednesday morning in a traffic accident involving 2 illegal aliens from Mexico while on her way to school.

Two Camden men have been charged in connection with an Evesham car crash that killed a DeMasi Middle School teacher on Wednesday.

Jose Luis Galindo-Sanchez, 26, is accused of driving the pickup truck that struck a vehicle driven by Amy Voorhees, 27, of Evesham, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office said Thursday. His brother, Lucio Garcia-Sanchez, 19, was a passenger in the truck, according to the office.

Both men, originally from Mexico, are illegal immigrants and live on the 900 block of 19th Street in Camden, authorities said. They said the men were driving to work at a sprinkler company in Medford when the wreck happened around 7 a.m. Wednesday at Troth Road and Route 70.

These are the illegal aliens that Jon Corzine wants to attract to this state by giving them driver’s licenses and in-state tuition. And the same illegals that Democrats see as nothing more than a voting bloc to ensure their own power base and a way of ending the Republican Party.

You see, for the so-called “party of the little guy” votes and power are more important than securing our borders and protecting you and me from becoming the next victims of illegals who have no business being here.

Honestly, it makes me sick.

Last week U.S. Prosecutor Chris Christie – as had been much expected – threw his hat into the ring for the New Jersey Governorship. Christie most assuredly has an admirable record fighting corruption in the state, but that does not in and of itself lend him the credentials to be Governor.

Understanding the state’s problems and having real solutions to those problems is what really matters. But Christie’s record on the issues is mostly unknown. As my fellow blogger Michael Illions has pointed out on Conservatives with Attitude! the only things we do know about him are not too encouraging for conservatives.

Is he still Pro-Choice and Anti-2nd Amendment like he was in the 90’s when he ran, and lost, for the State Assembly.

Does he really believe that illegal immigration is not really illegal or a crime, and just a paper work mishap, like he suggested at a press conference?

Does he really believe, like Jon Corzine does, that the answer to ‘Big Government’ is that there are to many towns/municipalities in New Jersey, again like he suggested at a press conference?

In fact, Christie’s comments about illegal immigration caught the attention – and wrath – of Lou Dobbs which led to this segment on his TV show:

Ouch!

Sorry, as I said it’s not enough just to have a strong prosecutorial record. Christie now needs to step forward and find a way to explain his comments on illegal immigration. And quite soon, he also needs to come forward and clearly present his views on the many vital issues facing the state.

While I’m on the subject of Christie’s candidacy, a while back I posted here at GSP that the media and some bloggers were already attemping to anoint him the Republican nominee (this, of course, even before he entered the race). Since Christie announced his intention this is exactly what we have been subject to.

- We have article like this one from the Courier Post Online: Christie’s entry into the race is good for voters Based on what?

- Or this from NJ.com: “For the GOP, the news is welcome.” Really? Who did they speak to in the GOP? Did they do a poll?

- An article at centraljersey.com entitled, Christie for governor sounds right for voters, gives us this little gem as if they speak for voters (let alone Republican voters):

Things are looking up for New Jersey, believe it or not. Christie’s candidacy has long been assumed, and he has been viewed for years as the Republicans’ best chance to unseat Gov. Jon S. Corzine. That he is, and the GOP should rally around him, beginning right now.

- Even outfits like redstate.com knee-jerkingly tried to spur their ‘army’ on to support him, seemingly ignorant of Christie’s stance on the above-mentioned issues as well as the credentials of a candidate like Steve Lonegan.

- Heck, even radio talker Steve Malzberg, who is as conservative as they come, has thrown his support to Christie while not even having the other candidates, Steve Lonegan and Richard Merkt, grace his airwaves.

Frankly, as a voter who is concerned about issues I’m tired of this celebrity-like mentality we have vis-a-vis our political candidates. Whether or not Christie is the best person for this job, voters deserve a serious candidate. They should listen carefully to what they say and what their solutions are. They should make judgments about their character and leadership abilities. They shouldn’t be making their choice based on name recognition, how they look on camera, or who Internet bloggers and ‘journalists’ say is their ‘best bet’ to win.
