Steve Lonegan On Ballot Question #1

October 15th, 2009 by Garden State Patriot and tagged Ballot Question #1, New Jersey Debt, Open Space Initiative, Steve Lonegan

At last weekend’s Conservative Leadership Breakfast (hosted by Conservative with Attitude’s own Michael Illions), Steve Lonegan gave a presentation on the open Space ballot initiative. Steve is leading the opposition to this initiative which will only add to the state’s already out of control taxes and debt.

In the following two clips, Steve explains in detail what Ballot Question #1 is all about and why you should emphatically vote “NO!”

Investing in open space is the #1 bet we have to keep taxes low! You a 10x return on these investment, save absurd costs of things like expensive water treatment, and everything else, you protect property values, and you save on insane municipal giveaways to developers, service costs, and COAH and long-term redevelopment obligations that fall on the taxpayers. It’s so sad that Steve Lonegan opposes a public question that will be delivering everything he says he’s for!!!!

What part of this do you not understand? Did you actually listent to what Steve said? It’s not about open space. It’s a slush fund for Trenton politicians. The whole thing is a scam.

Moreover, open space costs a lot of money to maintain and it simply isn’t profitable. There’s no way you’re going to see a 10 x ROI. If that were so, where the heck is all the money? Why the need to borrow?

i HATE HATE HATE the deficits. I’m right-of-Lonegan when it comes to fiscal conservatism. I’m also an investor. I hate to see a great investment go out the window just because the state has made so many unrelated bad investments. Cut what fails, save the little that works. If open space is a slush fund then why are there thousands of parks and natural areas to show for it… new parks increase people’s exercise by 25%, a study shows, and that reduces against healthcare costs. Every single Green Acres, NJ Farmland Preservation and NJ Historic project is posted publicly on those websites. LOCAL politicians and towns come up with the projects…the state money just matches some of the dollars, based on strict, transparent criteria. There’s no perfect government program, but this one comes as close as they get. Cut the government’s garbage programs and pension giveaways and all the rest, not the best of its programs that only cost each household 3 cents a day!

Are you familiar with the Ferriero case? He and Oury were using open space funds to line their own pockets.

Also, if everything is so transparent as you say, why is it the funds are abused for things like astroturf fields and parking lots?

Again, I don’t think you have really read or listened to what Steve had to say on the subject in any of my posts.

It’s time to stop trusting the politicians with our money and thinking they are going to do what’s right.
