From ‘Robust Debate’ To Mass Protest

June 15th, 2009 by Garden State Patriot and tagged Barack Obama, Iran, Iran Election, Iran Protests, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Mir Hossein Mousavi, Obama Administration

The Iranian people, desirous of reform and po’d at the sham re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadine-jihad, have taken to the streets in mass protest.

The protests have turned violent, with some Iranians having been killed already. Check out Gateway Pundit who has a ton on this (some of which I’m almost hesitant to post to be honest).

Meanwhile, where is the leader of the free world on this today? The man who thinks it’s OK for the mullahs to have nukes? The guy who was foolish enough to say this just last Friday?

We are excited to see what appears to be a robust debate taking place in Iran…Whoever ends up winning the election in Iran, the fact there has been a robust debate hopefully will advance our ability to engage them in new ways…

Is he making public statements in favor of the reform-minded protesters? Is he acting like an American President should and supporting people who clearly want more freedom and liberty? Is he anywhere to be found today on this at all?

Nope. Instead, he’s stone cold silent.

Truly. Sad.

You are right to point out that the President is being shamefully silent about the plight of victims of Iranian aggression.

He is the President of AMERICA. As such, he represents AMERICA. When is he going to stand up for AMERICAN values and AMERICAN interests?

Also, President Obama repeated in Cairo the claim that the Palestinians are entitled to a return to their homeland. Why can’t he, as the AMERICAN president, state a claim for the return of property to AMERICAN oil companies, whose assets were nationalized in the 1950s (starting in Iran)? Is that too much to ask of the leader of America?

Ed, this bugs me more by the minute. We have an opportunity here to help topple the worst, most vile regime in the Middle East and Obama is doing NOTHING. he has a responsibility to stand up and do something to help the Iranian people even if it’s merely rhetoric.

Mike, what bothers me the most about this is that he is willing to reach out to the dictators but not to the freedom fighters. It’s not like he thinks his mere words can have no effect there – indeed, his entire foreign policy is predicated on the premise that when Obama talks, people listen. That makes his silence here all the more shameful – though consistent with his character as we know it.

I just heard Rush Limbaugh play a clip of Robert Gibbs today saying that the struggle in Iran is an “internal one” and that the United States “respects the soverignty of other nations to make their own decisions.”

I wonder if Benjamin Netanyahu took any comfort from those words.
