The Candidates On The Issues
Alice’s Restaurant Blog has done a nice job of summarizing each candidate’s positions on the issues. While I am supporting Mayor Lonegan, and urge my fellow Republicans to do so as well, if you are still trying to decide then I would suggest taking some time and reading Alice’s posts.

Chris Christie ran for the state legislator in 1993 in the Democrat primary–under the Florio ticket– and he wanted to oppose a conservative in the general election.
Since he wanted to oppose a conservative, he obviously wasn’t one himself then and he isn’t one now.
In 1994, he ran as a Republican for Morris County Freeholder but didn’t face a competitive race against a Democrat in the general election since Morris County was a safe Republican County.
In that election, he was found guilty of libeling opponents during the primary and he admitted to a judge that he lied:

He tried to run for the state assembly in 1995 but lost by a lot in the primary.
Then when he ran for re-election in 1997 as a Freeholder, he came in last place (6 out of 6) in the primary and lost by a lot.
Lonegan has campaigned against Democrats and has been able to debate them. He was elected in a Democrat municipality and won re-election three times by double-digits.
When Corzine proposed two ballot initiatives in 07, Lonegan opposed them, helped lead the opposition to them and the voters agreed with Lonegan. He would be able to debate Corzine.

Neither Zimmer nor Forrester were conservatives.
The GOP establishment always claims that a conservative can’t win and that only the candidate who they endorse, has the only chance. They lie. The GOP establishment in NJ refuses to admit that Reagan won NJ both times by bigger margins than Kean or Whitman ever did.
Chris Christie’s campaign called himself a moderate. Then, when polls showed a margin of less than 10 between the candidates, Christie then started calling himself conservative in ads and started trying to sound a little more conservative on some issues, to try and fool some conservative voters.
You never hear the NJ GOP establishment criticize the radical left such as the Daily Kos and Moveon.org. Yet, they like to criticize conservatives.
