Falling Like A Barack

Only 60 days after taking office, Barack Obama’s appoval ratings are now at 50-50 according to Zogby.

The latest Zogby Interactive poll (released today) measuring the mood of the nation toward President Barack Obama and the nation’s direction shows some mixed results.

Under our long-standing measure of job performance (excellent, good, fair, poor), Obama’s positive ratings have dipped just below 50%. Likely voters choosing excellent or good fell three points from another Zogby Interactive poll concluded on March 5, going from 52% to 49% excellent or good; while 11% said fair and 38% poor.

His positive ratings (measured as very favorable, somewhat favorable, somewhat unfavorable and very unfavorable) are now 56% very or somewhat favorable, just one-point below that of March 5.

On the bright side for Obama is an increase to 45% of likely voters agreeing the nation is headed in the right direction. In a Jan. 8 interactive poll, only 14% chose right direction.  That percentage has moved up: 26% on Jan. 26, 40% on March 5 and is now 45%.

Rasmussen likewise shows Obama’s approval numbers sinking, with the gap between approve/disapprove having virtually disappeared since Inauguration Day.

Photos From Conservative Leadership Breakfast

Yesterday morning I was able to attend a terrific event organized by fellow Conservatives with Attitude! blogger, Michael Illions. The Conservative Leadership Breakfast was attended by gubernatorial candidates Steve Lonegan, Mayor Brian Levine, Assemblyman Merkt. Senator Cardinale represented Chris Christie’s campaign at the event, which was also attended by Assemblyman Michael Doherty.

It was great to see some of the gubernatorial candidates up close and personal and for everyone to have a chance to ask them questions in this type of setting.

That said, this event wasn’t about them really. It’s about conservatives banding together at the grassroots level, making our voices heard and beginning the process of changing the GOP in this state from the ground up.

Here are some photos from yesterday’s breakfast, starting with Michael and Assemblyman Doherty.

Here is Senator Cardinale who stood in for Chris Christie. Not an easy task for the Senator among this very pro-Lonegan crowd!

Obama Throws Gutter Ball On Leno

See, this is what happens when you don’t take the teleprompter with you everywhere you go. You end up comparing your bad bowling game to the disabled. Nice going, Baracky.

Leno asked the president whether the White House bowling alley had been “burned and closed down” in light of Obama’s gutter ball embarrassment on the campaign trail last year.

Obama replied, “No, no. I have been practicing . . . I bowled a 129.”

The audience roared with laughter, and the late-night talk show host assured Obama “that’s very good, Mr. President.” To which Obama interjected, “It’s like — it was like Special Olympics, or something.”

And you know it’s bad when even Keith Olbermann can’t help but cringe. Of course, if it were “W” he’d have been leading the call for his impeachment.

Ahh, fun times in Obama’s America.

{UPDATE: Here’s the video straight from the Leno show}

Corzine Budget Slammed By National Taxpayers Union

Hammering a few more nails into the Corzine coffin, the nonpartisan nonprofit National Taxpayers Union is the latest to rip the Gov’s anti-middle class budget proposals. They rightly point out that despite the Governor receiving his bailout from Washington, to the tune of $17.5B, he still plans to raise taxes on the middle class and NJ businesses.

(Alexandria, Va.) — The 362,000-member National Taxpayers Union (NTU) has urged lawmakers in New Jersey to reject the tax increases in Gov. Jon Corzine’s FY 2010 budget. Advocating on behalf of its 10,000-plus members in the state, NTU argued that New Jersey’s tax climate is one of the worst in the country as is, and putting further expansion of government on the backs of taxpayers will only worsen the recession in the Garden State.

“Gov. Corzine is punishing taxpayers for a problem he helped cause,” NTU State Government Affairs Manager Joshua Culling said. “Rather than coming to terms with the consequences of big government, he seeks to continue the tax-and-spend policies that got New Jersey in the economic mess it’s in. Conspicuous among them is that staple of dishonest budgeting — temporary tax hikes.”

The budget aims to “temporarily” raise the top personal income tax rate to 9.75 percent for a year, making it the third-highest in the country. It would also hike the cigarette tax, already the nation’s second-highest, another 12.5 cents per pack. A 4 percent “temporary” corporate business tax surcharge would be extended, and the excise tax on alcohol (excluding beer) would be increased 25 percent.

“Even though New Jersey is receiving $17.5 billion in stimulus funds from Washington and has already exported its massive cost of government to federal taxpayers across the country, Gov. Corzine is still intent on a slew of tax hikes,” Culling continued. “It’s as if he’s actively pushing residents out of the state.”

It’s no wonder Corzine is already claiming to be “reconsidering” his proposals to eliminate property tax rebates and the property tax decuction.

By the way, for a good laugh, go to Facebook and tell Big Jon what he should do to balance the budget. I’m sure he’ll listen.

Obama Disses American Vets

In one of Obama’s more disgraceful maneuvers to date, The Messiah is putting cost savings ahead of America’s obligations to those who have made the utmost sacrifice to their nation.

WASHINGTON, March 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The leader of the nation’s largest veterans organization says he is “deeply disappointed and concerned” after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.

“It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan,” said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. “He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it.”

The Commander, clearly angered as he emerged from the session said, “This reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate ‘ to care for him who shall have borne the battle’ given that the United States government sent members of the armed forces into harm’s way, and not private insurance companies. I say again that The American Legion does not and will not support any plan that seeks to bill a veteran for treatment of a service connected disability at the very agency that was created to treat the unique need of America’s veterans!”

Not only is this a slap in the face to our wounded vets, but there are practical problems with the plan which could impact the care being afforded, not just the vet him/herself, but their families. Fellow CWA! poster, Lowman S. Henry ,explains:

Moral issues aside, there are many pragmatic problems with such an approach. First, assuming members of the military will be able to obtain private insurance coverage under such conditions, there are such factors as deductibles, co-payments and coverage limits that would add to the individual veteran’s personal costs. For veterans with policies that cover their families, benefits could be exhausted by the veteran leaving family members without health care.

And then there is the financial impact on insurance companies. The Obama plan would add $540 million in expenses for health insurers, who along with everyone else are already suffering financially due to the economic recession. Forcing private insurers to pick up the government’s tab for veterans’ health care will trigger an increase in premiums, specifically on veterans but also generally on all policy holders. It would be, in effect, a hidden tax hike. That, or private insurance companies will go insolvent and join the line for a government bail-out.

On another note, this story reminded me of 2 others from the past. More recently, during last year’s election, many Democrats tried to attack Sarah Palin by tying her to a policy in Alaska that billed rape victims’ insurance companies for forensic tests tied to their investigation (a story that was not entirely true I might add). While these 2 situations are different – our government has a duty and obligation to our veterans – let’s just see if the Left cries foul over Obama’s policy.

Similarly, I will be waiting for those liberals who said they were outraged over the state of our VA hospitals during George Bush’s term to also speak up vociferously in opposition to this. After all, if they truly care for our vets then it matters not who our President is.

Of course, I won’t be holding my breath.

The “Shrinkage” In Corzine’s Budget

Well, not the kind of shrinking you’re thinking, my friends. Nope. Alas, this is what happens when you have an “impotent” governor who is, ahem, “hard up” for cash to address the state’s financial woes. From PolitickerNJ:

You can’t make this stuff up: Gov. Jon Corzine is balancing his budget on the ______ of impotent old men.  The state budget proposed by Corzine this week proposes the elimination of erectile dysfunction drugs from two state programs that helps senior citizens pay for prescription drugs.

The budget will stop the state Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD) and Senior Gold programs from paying for erectile dysfunction drugs, like Viagra.

In an unrelated matter, the Corzine administration is also proposing a ban on bikini waxes.  The state Division of Consumer Affairs is seeking a regulation that prohibits the removal of “superfluous hair from the …abdomen by use of depilatories, waxing or tweezing.”

Limitations on erectile dysfunction drugs and the removal of pubic hair are reminiscent of the Florio administration, which sought a sales tax on toilet paper and sought to regulate runny eggs.  The state Department of Health had required restaurants to cook eggs in their entirety to 140 degrees in an effort to stop the spread of salmonella.  Gov. Jim Florio dropped both proposals without haste.

Boy, it’s bad enough Corzine is hiking our taxes but to deny bikini waxes? C’mon, Big Jon! Think about how that will kill tourism at Jersey beaches! (sorry, folks, couldn’t help myself!)

By the way, whoever can come up with a better/more appropriate acronym than Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD) wins a prize! Well, not really, but I promise we will all “stand up” and applaud.

**Rasmussen Poll: Lonegan Up 8 On Corzine**

Via Rasmussen Reports:

New Jersey’s Democratic Governor Jon S. Corzine, who hopes to win a second term in November, has now fallen behind Republican challenger Christopher J. Christie by 15 points – 49% to 34%. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of voters in the state shows that seven percent (7%) prefer some other candidate, and 10% are undecided.

Corzine trails another potential GOP challenger, former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan, 43% to 35%, while seven percent (7%) like another candidate and 15% are not sure whom they prefer. New Jersey Republicans will chose a candidate to run against Corzine in a primary on June 2.

The survey was taken Tuesday, the day Corzine was announcing $916 million in new and increased taxes as part of his $29.8 billion state budget for 2010.

Many Republicans claim a conservative can’t win in New Jersey. Well, based on this poll, it just ain’t so. Steve can win this thing.

Carville Wanted Bush To Fail!

OK, I know I’ve been tooting my own horn over my post on Dems wanting Bush to fail (if I don’t, who will? :-) ). But you have to admit it’s amazing how one little blogger just futzing around on the Internet could cause a tremor that reached the biggest media outfits in the country.

Now, the latest ramification of my little post is this little ditty from Bill Sammon of Fox News:

On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, just minutes before learning of the terrorist attacks on America, Democratic strategist James Carville was hoping for President Bush to fail, telling a group of Washington reporters: “I certainly hope he doesn’t succeed.”

Carville was joined by Democratic pollster Stanley Greenberg, who seemed encouraged by a survey he had just completed that revealed public misgivings about the newly minted president.

“We rush into these focus groups with these doubts that people have about him, and I’m wanting them to turn against him,” Greenberg admitted.

The pollster added with a chuckle of disbelief: “They don’t want him to fail. I mean, they think it matters if the president of the United States fails.”

“The most influential Republican in the United States today, Mr. Rush Limbaugh, said he did not want President Obama to succeed,” Carville railed on CNN recently. “He is the daddy of this Republican Congress.”

Rush responded today himself:

“The difference between Carville and his ilk and me is that I care about what happens to my country,” Limbaugh told Fox on Wednesday. “I am not saying what I say for political advantage. I oppose actions, such as Obama’s socialist agenda, that hurt my country.

“I deal in principles, not polls,” Limbaugh added. “Carville and people like him live and breathe political exploitation. This is all a game to them. It’s not a game to me. I am concerned about the well-being and survival of our nation. When has Carville ever advocated anything that would benefit the country at the expense of his party?”

Just classic. More liberal hypocrisy. I really think these people think we’re all stupid.
