Actually, I'm glad that you did at least what you did.

I spoke to friends that live within our state, and told them to vote no on that bill. They all did, but sooo many people obviously didn't get the message.
Instead of listening to NJ 101.5 every once in a while, I guess they always listen to that dork Howard Stern.

Chris, I wish I had done more to disseminate this info in light of the outcome. Next time I will.

Alas, a lot of voters were under the false impression (of the misrepresentation given to) this bill, and vote YES! AAAAAGGGGGHHHH!
Evidently the voters don't want to make the decisions on how large spending is done.
I did vote NO.

I'm about to head out to voting and had to research a little bit about these two state questions.

#1 seems obviously NO, not because of the reasons stated by your article, but because it would imply that voters understand the pros/cons of each project and decide which ones are worth the debt -- something that I doubt even our legislators would know. Only on obvious or highly publicized issues would people be informed enough to make the right choice. Seems like a perfect way to create a gridlock for necessary projects.

#2, Found an article by League of Women Voters which explained the question better, but I still don't understand the downside of the current system, so I'm voting NO.

I just read about #2 and I'm voting YES! It gives local government control for appointment of judges to municipal courts that cover more than one municipality. Such control, if course, exists for all municipal courts that do not cross borders. This could encourage more sharing of courts, thereby saving money for NJ taxpayers.

I'm still confused about #1 but I'm persuaded by the alarming deductions above. The Trenton Times editorial urged voting Yes on this question. I also agree that the writing is just awful, and, as a college professor, I'm no idiot. If it fails, and if these public questions have to be written in a single sentence, then that law should be changed!

You are welcome! I was hoping to find out some information regarding Ballot Question #2 as well. Unfortunately, I could not come across anything too helpful. The League of Women's Voters had some info so you might want to check that out. That said, I will be voting "no" on #2 as well.

Thank you for posting this indeed! There should be a law that forces these idiots to write these questions in a way that an idiot like me can understand them!~ It's exceedingly frustrating to me that they get away with asking these backhanded questions in hopes that WE THE PEOPLE won't do our due diligence in figuring out what the hell is going on. I'm guessing we get what we deserve as a people. Sad really. I'm e-mailing this site to everyone on my list!! Thanks again for the help.

Thank you for posting this. It's unfortunate to read about ballot questions in which you have to read into the fine-print to see that not everything is as it appears to be.
